From networked individualism to "we" blogs

Is it possible to go beyond the narcistic “beauty contest” tendency of the blogsphere where people count links and referers to scale popularity and quality? From networked individualism to “we” blogs and Bridges and Bubbles come up with thoughts about fostering the collective intelligence with blogs.

One critic (among praises) one can give to portals would be that the contributions are rarely rewarded or even noticed by the community. Somehow, portals do not fit to our individualistic society. Would a “we” blogs be a more appropriate way to share knowledge and cultivate relationships?
