Fabien Girardin is a Ph.D.
candidate in Computer Science and
Digital Communication in the
Interactive
Technologies Group (Department of Informmation and
Communication Technologies) at the
Universitat Pompeu Fabra
in Barcelona, Spain. He is also affiliated with the
Senseable City Lab
(Department of Urban Studies and Planning) at the Massachusetts
Institute of
Technology (MIT) in Boston, USA. His
current investigation explores the integration
of ubiquitous technologies in the everyday urban environments. More
specifically, he studies the design of location-aware applications that
take into account the limitations of technologies. Fabien holds an
engineering degree
in Computer Science from the Biel
School of Engineering and Information Technology (University
of Applied Sciences Bern),
Switzerland and a M.Phil. in Computer Science and Digitial
Communication from the Pompeu Fabra University. During his
studies, he
worked in the fields of
interoperability and security in distributed systems at
Borland Software Corp.
in San Mateo, CA, USA. After graduating, he joined
TECFA at the
University of Geneva to develop collaborative learning environments and
later the
CRAFT
at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technologies, Lausanne (EPFL) to
design, implement, and study location-aware collaborative
applications. Subsequently, Fabien co-founded
Simpliquity, an
EPFL spin-off that offers user experience consultancy in the domain of
emerging technologies. [
